This Q/A is edited for brevity and clarity
Q. What spurred you to join the AEF board?
I have believed in the Foundation and its programs since I first became aware of it in 1995 when I was TOY Ambassador. I began working with the A+ program and serving on committees as needed, and see the value that the Foundation brings to Education in the state of Arizona.
Q. What have you most enjoyed about being a member of the board?
I love working with people who believe in education as much as I do. I love working with our director and administration and feel that everything they do is absolutely top notch and quality. Our programs are consistent, valuable and reflect the positivity which public opinion of education often lacks.
AEF truly makes a difference for education in the state of Arizona.
Q. What is your favorite program?
I can’t choose just one. One of my favorites is the A+ School of Excellence program because I’ve had a chance to celebrate fantastic schools and visit schools all over the state to see what exciting things are happening in the classroom. But I also love the Teacher of the Year Program and feel that it’s quite a bit like the “Academy Awards for Education” every year.
We have consistently had an excellent representation of teachers who speak on behalf of education all over the state (and country)! And, of course, I wouldn’t be involved in AEF at all if it hadn’t been for the TOY Program.
Q. If you could tell a family member of friend one thing about AEF and its impact on public schools in Arizona, what would you say?
AEF is highlighting the positive in education through programs such as A+, Teacher of the Year, Principal’s Leadership Academy, the Polly Rosenbaum Writing Contest, Take Your Legislator to School, and the state Spelling Bee. The Foundation connects public and charter school educators and administrators with business partnerships and legislators, and provides a proactive voice for education throughout the state.
