Arizona Spelling Bee
The 2013 AEF™ Arizona Spelling Bee was held on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at Eight/AZ PBS in downtown Phoenix. Congratulations to the winner, Christopher O’Connor, a 7th grade student at St. Cyril of Alexandria Catholic School in Tucson. Christopher will represent Arizona in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. from May 28-May 30, 2013.
The Spelling Bee lasted for 12 rounds, until there were only 2 spellers left. In order to win, Christopher correctly spelled “jejunely” ( which had been incorrectly spelled by the other finalist) and then correctly spelled “temblor.” Runners up included 2nd place winner Mathews Sajan, a 6th grader from Highland Lakes School in Glendale; 3rd place winner Tommy LaPenna, a 5th grader from C.I. Waggoner Elementary School in Tempe; 4th place winner Cal Hargis, an 8th grader from Safford Middle School in Safford; and 5th place winner Magda Rodgriguez, an 8th grader from Morris K. Udall School in Phoenix.

Enrollment
IMPORTANT: In order to participate in the AEF Arizona Spelling Bee, a student must attend a school (includes homeschooled students) that has enrolled with Scripps National Spelling Bee and has paid the enrollment fee to Scripps.
School enrollment with Scripps National Spelling Bee will begin in August of 2013 and continue through October of 2013. Late school enrollment takes place from October, 2013 through December, 2013. Enrollment is completed online; schools must visit spellingbee.com and follow the enrollment instructions.
