The 2014 AEF™ Arizona Spelling Bee was held on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at Eight/AZ PBS in downtown Phoenix.
Congratulations to the winner, Nila Dhinaker, a 7th grade student at Cooley Middle School in Gilbert. The Arizona Spelling Bee lasted for 21 exciting rounds, until there were only 2 spellers left. In order to win, Nila correctly spelled “effraction” ( which had been incorrectly spelled by the other finalist) and then correctly spelled “salvific.”
Runners up included 2nd place winner Christopher O’Connor, an 8th grader from St. Cyril of Alexandria in Tucson; 3rd place winner Sean Bolus, an 8th grader from Hopi Jr./Sr. High School in Keams Canyon; 4th place winner Isha Paode, a 7th grader from Willis Junior High in Chandler; and 5th place winner Jacob Rimmer, a 6th grader from Boulder Creek Elementary in Phoenix.
The Arizona Spelling Bee will be broadcast on April 11 at 9 p.m. on Eight, Arizona PBS.
Champion Nila Dhinaker will represent Arizona in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. from May 27-May 29, 2014. For more information about the 2014 National Spelling Bee, please visit www.spellingbee.com
IMPORTANT: In order to participate in the AEF Arizona Spelling Bee, a student must attend a school (includes homeschooled students) that has enrolled with Scripps National Spelling Bee and has paid the enrollment fee to Scripps. School enrollment with Scripps National Spelling Bee will begin on August 15th, 2013. Late school enrollment takes place from October 15th, 2013 through December 13th, 2013. A penalty will be assessed for late enrollment. Enrollment is completed online; schools must visit spellingbee.com and follow the enrollment instructions. Enrollment fees are as follows:

- Home School Family Enrollment: $89
