Late last month, Honors English 8th graders from Colonel Smith Middle School (a feeder school on the Army’s Ft. Huachuca Post in Sierra Vista) visited 2017 Arizona Teacher of the Year Semifinalist Karen Bristow’s High School Honors English Class.
Eighth grade Teacher, Mrs. Santita D’Anjou, and Karen coordinated a one-day visit to Buena High School so the 8th graders could see what seniors do in a High School Honors English class.

Imagine communities without teachers. Imagine society without public education. It’s untenable to think of life for our kids without the benefits our public schools provide.
Unfortunately, the current state of public education would have you believing that there is little value in our public school teachers and no hope for college students to pick teaching as a career. Ask yourself this: would you join a profession where stagnant pay, ever-shifting guidelines, a depleted workforce, and very little hope of financial improvement is normal? This question was highlighted in the national news over the summer when the Washington Post published an article titled, “Why teachers are fleeing Arizona in Droves” and Arizona went crazy. Unfortunately, reading this piece and just watching the news here at home over the last few months make it easy to see why teacher retention and teacher recruitment are a struggle.
The Arizona Educational Foundation (AEF) announces its 2016 Arizona Teacher of the Year Ambassadors for Excellence. Of these five Ambassadors, one will receive the coveted title of AEF Arizona Teacher of the Year at the Nov. 19 awards luncheon at the Arizona Biltmore.
The annual Teacher of the Year program is the premier event of the Arizona Educational Foundation (AEF), a statewide organization that promotes and awards the exceptional achievements by Arizona’s public school teachers.
