Writing on the Wall: Making Thinking Visible with Vertical Boards in ELA

Vertical boards transform classroom discussion from passive, limited participation to visible thinking. In this session, participants will explore how vertical dry erase surfaces can increase student engagement, strengthen collaboration, and make analysis more dynamic. Through videotaped lessons, ready-to-use strategies, and practical implementation tips, attendees will learn how to use vertical boards for close reading, vocabulary development, argumentative writing, feedback and reflection, and collaborative discussion. Educators will leave with adaptable techniques that promote movement, accountability, and deeper student thinking.
