Let your spelling mistakes send a student to the National Bee!

Support Arizona Spelling Bee Finalists by participating in the Buzzed Bee! Test your spelling skills, enjoy a fun night at Chicken N Pickle, and support Arizona public education.

The Buzzed Bee is hosted at Chicken N Pickle in Glendale. Each attendee will receive a drink ticket and then food and additional drinks are available for purchase-with 10% of sales between 5-7pm going to support AEF! The Buzzed Bee will allow attendees to team up to test their spelling and vocab knowledge all while raising funds to send another Arizona Finalist to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Event runs from 5-9pm. Registration will open at 5pm and festivities will kick off at 6pm. Come hungry and ready to spell!

AEF is the official partner of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. All event proceeds support travelcosts for Arizona students to compete in the national competition!

Welcome to The Buzzed Bee
The only spelling bee where mistakes are mandatory, the drinks are flowing, and the cause is pure brilliance. Gather your smartest (or loudest) friends, grab a cocktail, and step into the spotlight—where your ability to spell antidisestablishmentarianism after a margarita could help an Arizona student spell their way to the national stage.

What to Expect

  • 🍷 A cocktail-fueled spelling showdown
  • 🐝 Words you definitely don’t remember from school
  • 📣 Cheering, heckling, and emotional breakdowns (the good kind)
  • 🎓 A cause worth every misspelled syllable

Who’s This For?

Anyone who:

  • Loves a good cause
  • Can’t resist a mic
  • Has a competitive streak (and a low tolerance)
  • Still resents getting knocked out of their 4th grade spelling bee

📝 Rules & Code of Conduct

(a.k.a. The Official Buzzed Bee Code of Honor)

  1. No Googling Under the Table.
We see you. So does autocorrect. Keep it honest (and hilarious).
  2. All Spelling Must Be Verbal
Clear enunciation is optional. Creative confidence is required.
  3. Booing is Prohibited (Unless It’s at Yourself).
Please support all spellers with love, laughter, and gentle heckling.
  4. No Bribing the Emcee With Tequila.
Unless it’s really good tequila. Just kidding. (Mostly.)
  5. If You Pass Out, You Forfeit Your Turn.
We’re rooting for you to stay conscious until “onomatopoeia.”
  6. Costumes and Bee Puns Are Highly Encouraged.
Bonus points for wings, antennae, or clever t-shirts like “Buzzed But Brilliant.”
  7. No Crying Over Misspelled Words.
Unless it’s happy tears. Or you just really love education.

🐝 Buzzed Bee FAQ

Everything You Were Too Sober to Ask

Q: Do I need to be a good speller?
A: Absolutely not. In fact, it’s way more fun if you’re not.

Q: Do I need to drink?
A: Nope! Being buzzed is a vibe, not a requirement. Water drinkers and mocktail masters are welcome.

Q: What happens if I win?
A: Eternal glory, a ridiculous prize, and possibly your name misspelled in our newsletter. You’re welcome.

Q: What’s the real reason for this event?
A: To support the Arizona students who are spelling their way to the Scripps National Spelling Bee—and to prove that grownups can still have fun (and make a difference).

Q: Can I bring friends?
A: Yes. You and Three friends can sign up as a team for a discounted rate!
