Take Your Legislator to School
AEF’s Take Your Legislator to School program gives students firsthand insight into state government while offering legislators a day to experience life in a public school classroom.

About Take Your Legislator to School
AEF’s Take Your Legislator to School program connects Arizona’s public school communities with state legislators, creating opportunities for students to engage directly with policymakers, gain insight into the workings of government, and learn how to be informed, responsible and engaged citizens who can contribute thoughtfully to their communities and the democratic process. By hosting a legislator, schools highlight the vital role of educators and help legislators better understand the unique strengths and challenges of Arizona’s public schools. This partnership facilitates meaningful conversation between policy makers, students and educators, and gives state legislators an intimate look at the day-to-day realities of public schools in Arizona.
What’s Involved

- A student-led tour of the school
- Classroom observation
- Legislator-led lesson in history or civics
- Lunch with students and staff
- Visits to additional classrooms
- Small-group Q&A
- Closing reflections and discussion of next steps
