Metro Tech High School
About this Designation"As with all A+ schools, the most impressive aspect of the school is the students. The students are spirited, and motivated. They work hard, stay on task, are attentive in class. They don't talk at inappropriate times, read, use their cell phone, or stare out the window; they are polite and respectful. And—they love and are proud of their school. Words the students used to describe Metro Tech include: educational, excellent, engaging, supportive, friendly, and eclectic.
Positive student behavior starts with positive relationships, as students “don’t learn from people they don’t like.” Metro Tech teachers are committed: They plan engaging lessons, stay after school to tutor, and are involved in clubs and sports. The classrooms are filled with students before and after school, and at lunch as the students go in for assistance or to just talk with their teachers. The administration and faculty have also worked to forge connections with the community. The parents are very supportive of the efforts of the school to improve learning and recognize the advances to create a safe and nurturing campus.
The application states that lesson design and relevant teaching are priorities at Metro Tech, which is evident by the engaging lesson being taught. The teachers state and explain the day’s learning target in student friendly terms. Formative assessments are frequently assigned during a lesson to check for student understanding of the material being taught. Most teachers end the lesson with an active participation closure activity, helping to cement the learning before the students leave. One aspect that we found most impressive is the school’s graduation rate.
It is with great enthusiasm that we recommend the Metro Tech Knights be awarded the A+ School of Excellence Distinction!"- Most Recent Year: 2022
