Washington Covena, from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, Joins Board of Arizona Educational Foundation (AEF®)

The Arizona Educational Foundation (AEF®) is pleased to announce Washington Covena, Staff VP, Commerical Verticals and Strategy at Blue Cross® Blue Shield® of Arizona, will join the AEF Board of Directors.

Washington Covena is a healthcare executive specializing in harmonizing process, people, marketing, and consumer engagement. His 25+ year career extends across business strategies, account management, organizational development, and learning strategy.

Washington lives in Goodyear, Arizona, with his wife Marisol and his two kids Denzel and Zoe. He is a graduate of Purdue University Global, a long-standing member of the Association for Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA), and proudly serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Washington loves to travel, play golf, and is an avid runner.

“We are overjoyed to welcome Washington Covena and his experience to the AEF Board,” states AEF Board President, Dr. Pamela Roggeman, Dean of the College of Education for the University of Phoenix. “Washington’s close ties to the Arizona community combined with is vast business experience and knowledge of the K-12 public school landscape will enhance the work of AEF among our community of students and educators.” 

Covena will play an integral role in providing governance and advancing AEF’s work, which began in 1983 when the organization was founded by then Superintendent of Public Instruction, Carolyn Warner.

Covena’s appointment to the AEF Board is for a two-year term.
